CV

Gabriel Hensche *1986 in Dresden (DE), lives and works in Berlin. 
He works with moving image, performance, and constructed situations that explore possibilities for community and co-existence in the face of current technological developments. He creates exercises, rituals and games collectively with other artists sharing the belief that ‘play’ can be a destabilising action that loosens the social code and potentially revivifies habituated, reflex-tending forms of life.

Having served as Managing Director, he helped establish and grow Campus Gegenwart (DE) from 2017 to 2022. This transdisciplinary center promotes networking in practice and reflection at the State University of Music and Performing Arts, Stuttgart. Since 2023, he is part of the leadership team of the School of Commons at the Zurich University of the Arts (CH), and oversees its peer learning program.

Teaching/other professional activities

2010-2014 he worked on topics concerning art and politics with an interdisciplinary working group, financed by the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
2012 he is co-founder of the concert format UMHÖREN, a field of experimentation between visual art and music.
2013 he is co-founder of the art-ensemble PUNCH & JUDY, which won the jury prize at the Open Mind Festival, Mannheim.
2012-2014 he was in charge of the art mediation program of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (Museum of Contemporary Art).
2016 he was actively involved in MANIFESTINA, a movement investigating formats of demonstrations, initiated by Maurizio Cattelan.
2017 & 2018 he was leading workshops for art students from the Academy of Applied Arts Rijeka (HR) and the Academy of Arts Novi Sad (SRB).
2023 he was leading a workshop at the Institute of Architecture – Technical University Berlin (DE).

From 2017 - 2022, he has been helping to establish Campus Gegenwart (DE), a center for networking in practice and reflection at Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts in collaboration with the Stuttgart State Akademie of Art and Design and the Merz Akademie, as managing director. In this framework he gained four years of teaching experience with multidisciplinary groups of students coming from various artistic backgrounds.

Since January 2023, he has been a member of the School of Commons' leadership team, overseeing various responsibilities including the SoC program at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
